Hurry Up and Wait

Isn’t that what life is all about?  I remember our wedding when I hurried to get ready for one of the best days of my life. I got to the church and then waited.

Think about going on a trip.  First, you hurry to make the reservations and then you wait for the designated time.  You rush to the airport to stand and wait in line to check in and then you hurry to security to wait in line again.  I think you can feel the cycle.  You find the gate and then wait.  The call to board comes and you quickly gather your things to stand in line and wait.

Retirement seems to go along with the hurry and up and wait. Ron sent in his retirement package and contacted the pension department early this year. We received a package from the pension department and are still waiting for the RCMP to contact us.  When the wait extended to over 5 months, Ron contacted the pension department again and they advised him to complete the forms so that we wouldn’t have to wait for a pension payment.  We completed the many forms and mailed them away and we wait..wait for the RCMP and Pension Department to contact us.

Once the RCMP does talk to Ron we should be able to list our house and wait for it to sell.

So retirement is the same as everything else in life.  The big difference is that we have the time to wait.  We don’t have to hurry about anything.  It will all happen when it is supposed to happen. We will just continue with life.

So… while we wait, we find things to do and yesterday was a hike day.  We wanted to do the Window Mountain Hike.

We did this five years ago when we first landed in this area.  The first time that we did it, we found the trail head easily enough, this time not so much.  It looks right by the name being at the end of a trail. We parked at the end of a spot that marked Window Mountain and walked down a very rutted, muddy trail.  My directions said that after two kilometres of this the trail would narrow.

We walked past the point of the trail changing.  The scenery was still beautiful even if we weren’t on the right tail and we were getting our steps and some good elevation.

We continued to walk until we came to what looked the end.

We looked up and found the window.  We kind of felt that that was good enough for today.

We took in the views from this perspective and made our way back to truck.

We drove down the road and found the right trailhead but I had decided that just seeing window mountain was good enough for today.

We continued on down this very bumpy road for a number of kilometres just to see where it might go. When it crossed another bridge, narrowed and seemed to go straight up, we decided our exploring was over.

We got home in time to make a healthy dinner on the barbeque and then off I went for a pedicure.  What a great way to end a hike day!
