Last Week's Hike - Fullerton Loop and a Little Extra

On Ron's last days off we headed to our son's to be able to get a head start on a hike the next day.  He couldn't join us due to his work schedule.

We headed south into Kananaskis again.  There are so many places to hike BUT I forgot my new hiking book that I just bought and so we watched along the road for trail heads.  Our first stop was past Bragg Creek where they close the road in the winter and spring.
We walked down a little ways to a parking lot and found a short but beautiful trail to explore.

This trail was less than a half a kilometre so after a few pictures we decided to walk down the closed road and see what other trails might be close by.

The Beaver Flat Trail was an interpretive walk along the water that explained everything you ever wanted to know about beavers.  It was very pretty but when we reached the end it turned out to be only about 2.5 km.  We were adding some mileage but I had my hiking shoes on and Ron was carrying a back pack.  We needed to find a real hike and so we did...
The Fullerton Loop is just over 7 km long with lots of good grades to get the heart pumping.
  • Distance: 7.1 km Return
  • Elevation Gain: 208m
  • Total Elevation Gain: 363m
  • Physical Difficulty: 2/5
  • Technical Difficulty: 2/5
  • Time: 2 - 4 Hrs Return
So it is listed as a 2/5...we are new hikers and we did it in just over 2 hours.

The path is wonderful and the gradual incline leaves you breathing heavy but enjoying the scenery all around and when you get to the summit it's beautiful.

It is always so satisfying to reach the top but sometimes the trip back down can be almost as hard with the steep slopes and wind gusts.
The trails to explore in the mountains are endless.  This is just in one little area.  Hikes for all kinds of hikers, bikers and horse riders.  Fortunately we are experiencing this before it is a busy season.  After a good hike we headed back to our favourite ice cream place and enjoyed the flowering trees that are all in bloom around us.
Another beautiful day and a great hike.

BABY UPDATE:  Baby Anthony went home today wrapped in the baby blanket that I sent.  I knew he was just waiting for that to arrive.
