It’s been a week since we called the ambulance for Dad. Each day is an encouragement and a struggle. On Saturday, his blood pressure was consistently high, his sodium was low and his sugar elevated. He had a headache and was dizzy but he was positive.
On Sunday, he was tired but had been run through all the tests. Dad said that he had seen everyone that ended with “ist.” He saw the speech pathologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, stroke specialist and other specialists.
Monday, he was sitting up a bit and was given a test for his memory. He did just as well as mom and I. He was hungry though and the bags of food running through his feeding tube was not that satisfying. A few ice chips are not the same as a tasty dinner.
Tuesday included more tests and he was able to do a little more. There was a promise of the feeding tube coming out soon if he passed the swallow test.
On Wednesday, he passed the test and was given some questionable looking mushy food. Apparently mushy broccoli is not his favourite but the pudding was good.
Thursday was the big day. Three square puréed meals were received today and best of all the feeding tube was removed. He has been sitting up more and even walking a little bit.
We don’t know all the steps ahead but we know that he is making them.
Thank you for your prayers and suppprt.
