Bella Coola or Bust

Ron woke up early and headed out to find somewhere to be quiet while we slept in a little longer.  He returned with our breakfast.  After we got ready and gathered our things, we caught the hotel shuttle for 7:30 a.m. We were dropped off at the main terminal at the Vancouver airport.  We had a little time to spare and so Sarah found, you guessed it….Starbucks!

We got on the bus to the south terminal and arrived with lots of time to spare.  We settled in for a little wait and anxious to fly north to see Stephen and Kylie.  Our flight was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and just before it was time to board, they made an announcement.  The flight would be delayed 30 minutes due to weather in Bella Coola.  As the time got closer to 11:00, another announcement came.  The flight was going to take off knowing about the weather.  If the landing wasn’t safe, the plane would be rerouted to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island to refuel and then fly back to Vancouver.  As we boarded, I prayed that we would be able to make a safe landing as planned.

The plane was super small, with only about 21 seats.  It was so tight walking down the aisle that you could hardly get through.

As we flew, the scenery was beautiful and Sarah and I were both busy taking pictures.

We had missed the mountains.

We breathed a sigh of relief to see the clouds dissipating and when the captain said that we could land in Bella Coola.

Stephen was at the airport when we landed and it was so good to see our boy. He took us for a little drive to see his area and some beautiful views.

We stopped at the detachment and had a tour of his work area.

We arrived at their house and Kylie had lunch and tea ready for us.  We brought a few things from Ontario.  The syrup was a real hit.

Our day continued with some visiting, unpacking, tea time, a dog walk and then Kylie, Stephen and Sarah did a workout.

It’s so nice to be here!

Oh! That is why the sign had to be made sooner than later!
