Surprise!

We had tried to surprise our grandkids when we came but it turns out that the surprise was on us!  Before we left Alberta, Jenn had told us about a birthday surprise for a man that had been in our first church.  The date was September 16th. I marked it on our calendar with anticipation of seeing and visiting with old friends.  On Friday, Jenn sent me the invitation.

WHAT???

It wasn’t for Bruce.  The party was for us.  She had gotten worried that we might make other plans or show up late and thought she should spring the surprise on us a day early.  On Saturday, we drove to Gananoque looking forward to seeing our church friends there.  When we walked in the door, our eyes shot around the room.

There were people from all three churches that we had pastored.

There were other friends and family.

Ron and I went in separate directions greeting people that we hadn’t seen for years.

Jenn had done a great job getting so many people together to celebrate with us.  She had a little help from her friends!

It really felt like we had come home.

We felt so blessed to see so many friends and shocked by the number of celebration cards, gift cards and gifts.

The Christmas Market Tradition

I kind of got hooked on Christmas Markets in Swift Current when I went with my dear friends, Lynne and Casey.  I was amazed at the many booths of food, crafts, pictures and everything Christmasy.  The next year I went twice...first with Lynne and Casey and then with my wonderful work (and tea) buddies Catherine and Corinne.

And then we moved north!  No Christmas Markets there.

When we moved to Alberta, I got the fever again and I wanted to pass it on.  I googled Christmas Markets in our area and found that Spruce Meadows is the best place to go.  I went and enjoyed it thoroughly.

The next year, I made it a weekend!

This year, I repeated our tradition.  Brianne and I drove and stayed overnight and then spent a number of hours enjoying the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Christmas.

SIGHTS:

But the best part was spending time with these Brianne who has become so much like family.  I'm glad that she lets this old lady hang out with her!
