I have been sick for a few days and felt well enough to take mom to the hospital today. I was thankful for others to help out while I was nestled under the covers at home. On Saturday, when I felt like crawling out from between the sheets, Ron took me for a drive. I love the orchards this time of year.
Warm apple cider felt so good on the throat and the applesauce donuts went down pretty good too.On Sunday, I felt well enough to get back down and see dad. It sometimes feels like he is taking two steps forward in his healing only to slip back a step and a half. I’m thankful for his positivity and his willingness to follow the rules at this point.
He has had many different roommates but he remains the constant with his lake view bed. The staff at the hospital have been amazing.I took the time on Sunday to enjoy the fall beauty as I walked to the parking area at the end of the day. It’s always good to take time to smell the roses or in this case, snap pictures of the coloured leaves.
On our way home from the hospital, we came across another adventure. An extremely large piece of something was being transported. We were almost to the condo but were directed to pull up on the curb. Hydro One crews were along the road, lifting wires for this vehicle to get under. We watched as this huge load slowly crawled by missing us by a few feet.
Today, mom did her volunteering at the store in the morning. This lady has more energy than most people half of her age. We had some lunch and made our way to the hospital. I think dad brightens up when he sees his bride of 69 years walk into the room. He is eating well and even enjoyed a slice of pizza that we brought in. Dad loves calls and visits and was happy to have a nephew and his wife stop by today. We found a little quiet corner in the hospital to enjoy a tea while dad napped. I brought my iPad to keep mom from getting bored.
We seem to have a long road ahead of us but as long as he is still strolling along the path, we are happy to be alongside him and we will take the time to enjoy the seasons along the way.
